Trade & Exhibition Program Specialist

Role Overview

The Trade & Exhibition Program Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering international trade exhibitions, business missions, and industry matchmaking programs on behalf of the Northern Ontario Chinese Chamber.

This role supports the Chamber’s mandate to connect Northern Ontario industries with international markets, particularly China and Asia-Pacific regions, while aligning with regional economic development priorities.


Key Focus Areas

The position supports trade and investment activities across Northern Ontario priority sectors, including but not limited to:

  • Mining and critical minerals

  • Advanced manufacturing and industrial technology

  • Clean energy and infrastructure

  • Healthcare, senior services, and education-related industries

  • Tourism, culture, and creative industries


Core Responsibilities

Trade & Exhibition Planning

  • Plan and coordinate Northern Ontario participation in international trade exhibitions, expos, and industry forums

  • Liaise with international exhibition organizers, industry associations, chambers of commerce, and sector platforms

  • Support inbound and outbound trade missions, including delegation planning and logistics

Business Matchmaking & Industry Exchange

  • Organize business matchmaking sessions, B2B meetings, site visits, and industry exchanges

  • Coordinate meetings involving businesses, government representatives, educational institutions, and partner organizations

  • Support sector-specific roundtables, briefings, and networking events

Stakeholder & Government Coordination

  • Work closely with municipal, provincial, and federal stakeholders, as well as economic development agencies

  • Coordinate schedules, meeting agendas, and briefing materials for official and business delegations

  • Support protocol-sensitive activities involving government or institutional representatives

Post-Event Follow-Up & Outcome Tracking

  • Track post-event follow-up activities, partnership discussions, and cooperation outcomes

  • Maintain records of trade leads, investment interests, and potential collaboration opportunities

  • Support the preparation of post-mission reports, impact summaries, and funding deliverables


Recruitment Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in International Trade, Business, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field

  • 3–5 years of experience in trade promotion, exhibition coordination, international business development, or industry programs

  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills


Core Competencies

  • Ability to manage multi-stakeholder projects across borders and sectors

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with businesses, government bodies, and industry partners

  • Familiarity with trade exhibitions, business missions, and international collaboration frameworks

  • Strong documentation, follow-up, and reporting capabilities


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, or trade promotion agencies

  • Familiarity with Canada–China or Canada–Asia trade and investment environments

  • Professional working proficiency in English; Mandarin proficiency is a strong asset

  • Experience supporting government-funded or publicly supported trade programs
